The Treasures of Montezuma 2 review for Nokia C5-03

The Nokia C5-03's generously sized 3.2-inch screen and touch-sensitive interface makes it a great handset for a bit of casual gaming, and in the Treasures of Montezuma 2 takes full advantage of both, delivering some classic puzzle-based action to help you while away a few minutes, or a few hours. Join us after the cut as we take a closer look.

On the surface, Montezuma comes across like any number of other match-three titles out there. But while the basic premise of swapping coloured tokens on screen to create matching sets of three may be familiar, this isn't actually the point of the game. The idea is to grab the coloured crystals trapped inside certain tokens. You do this by making sure these specific crystals make part of your matching three – do so and the crystal pops into your stash, with each level requiring a certain number in order to progress.

With each level you complete you're given the option to buy 'buildings' in your The Aztec city using the gold your exploits have earned you. These are effectively power-ups, such as exploding tokens or the ability to use a token-zapping totem during the level.

It adds a welcome layer of adventure to what is already one of the better examples of this genre out there, and keeps you coming back for more.

Graphics and gameplay are relatively simple, yet are pleasingly executed, while the controls are no more complicated than tapping the tokens you want to swap on screen, so there's little room for frustration.

With Survival and Puzzle modes providing alternative playing options to the standard Adventure mode, and three levels of difficulty to choose from, The Treasures of Montezuma 2 is an impressively rich title that'll have you coming back for more.
