It's not quite as satisfying as popping bubble wrap, but Bubble Popper XXL comes pretty close, and is a pretty decent way to pass a bit of spare time with your Nokia C5-03. Join us after the break as we take a closer look.
There's no shortage of games like Bubble Popper XXL around – in fact, just last week we reviewed something mighty similar in The Treasures of Montezuma 2. Here the object is to... well, pop bubbles, you won't be too surprised to hear.

The familiar grid-like screen is filled with various types of bubble, and any two or more bubbles of the same type lying adjacent to each other can be popped. To clear each level requires popping a certain number of bubbles in a certain number of moves, with the number required increasing with each level.
Pop five or more bubbles in one move and you'll be given a gold star in your grid, which can be tapped at any point to instantly clear a whole row of eight bubbles regardless of their type. If you get upwards of eight bubbles in a single move, you get a red star, which clears three rows when tapped – a total of 24 bubbles.
The idea is that you keep these stars for when you're running low on moves and you don't have any obvious way of clearing the required number of bubbles to complete the level. It's a useful addition to the gameplay, and adds an element of strategy to a game that would otherwise be fairly predictable.
It's not a difficult game to master, and all it takes to pop a set of bubbles is a single tap on any of them – tap a surrounding bubble by mistake and nothing happens, unless of course that's part of a different set you didn't want to pop just yet. But that's about as badly as things can go wrong.
Our only real frustration with Bubble Popper XXL is the length of time between levels. The game seems to take an awful long time to process everything, and you're left wondering should you be tapping something on screen to move things along.
And if we were being really critical, we'd say Lunagames could have done a little more to visually distinguish the various bubble types, as they all look a little too similar for our liking.
That aside it's a satisfying time-waster that will have you coming back for more, and the ads in the free version are so unobtrusive you'll barely notice them there at all.
