Thankfully, there's a simple search function built-in, and one you can add to the home screen if you use it a lot. If you haven't already added the search function to one of your widgets, you'll be able to find it in the main menu.
Click on the Menu button, and press Applications. Then click on Search. You can click on different types of file – from Messages, to Music, to Images, or you can search by name.
Tap the box at the bottom to start a new search. This brings up the onscreen keyboard – start typing, and your Nokia N8 will bring up a list of different files and different categories that match what you're typing. The list goes down the more you type, letting you easily find files.
