Nokia prototypes running an early version of Microsoft's Windows Phone 7.5 operating system are already in testing, with Nokia aiming to have the finished product on the market before the end of the year. Want to know more? Read on to find out more about the Nokia Windows Phone 7.5 being tested.

We know that Nokia Windows Phones are on their way, and we can't wait to get our hands on the first Windows Phone-powered Nokia, but of course building a whole new mobile ecosystem takes time. Things are very much moving forward, however, and the first Nokia handsets running Microsoft's mobile platform are being tested as we speak.

So says Nokia executive vice president Kai Öistämö, who revealed that “the products are not done yet, but you can already see the signs”.

Öistämö confirmed that the handsets in question are running the 'Mango' update to Windows Phone 7 – or Windows Phone 7.5 as it is now known. The upgrade is expected to bring with it true multitasking, faster app switching and full integration with the next version of Internet Explorer when it arrives later this year.

In related news, Nokia and Microsoft have announced that have hammered out the final details and signed a final agreement – and ahead of schedule too. “Hundreds of our team members are already working together toward a multi-year product roadmap and are on-schedule to deliver volume shipments in 2012 although the pressure is on for first delivery in 2011,” Öistämö and Microsoft's Windows Phone chief Andy Lees revealed in a joint statement.

“In the coming years we will aggressively work to take Nokia products using Windows Phone to new geographies, at new price points and sharing new experiences for customers around the world to enjoy.”

So when Nokia Moves fully to WP7 how will we know which phone will be their best phone for the year? eg. I buy a new phone every year (last year was the N8) Do i get the WP7 Handset when it comes out or go for the E7? Will the WP7 be this years flagship or just another device to say ok here is our first attempt? User feedback is very much welcome.

Well said Lucas….I feel somewhat let down by Nokia.
For the last few years now, I fell for the marketing hype of the N97, Nokia’s new flagship device only for it to be dropped like a dirty shirt months later. We were then told, the N900 was the way forward with Maemo that would appear on all high-end Nokia devices. I bought into that and replaced by ailing N97 with the N900 only for months later to be told Maemo was being dropped in favour of meego and now that is pretty much being dropped before it even gets off the ground, in favour of ….. urghh, Windows!!! I’m sure WP7 is very good but no more Nokia. You’ve lost my business. Me (and I’m sure many other people) feel like Nokia have really screwed them for the last few years now so it’s time to vote with my feet.

Sadly, there’s not much other choice out there other than Android and the devils spawn (iOS) so looks like it’ll be Android for me.
Goodbye Nokia….I would say it had been fun but frankly, it hasn’t!!!

No more!!! I’m sad to say this will be the last Nokia device I own. I’m moving to android for my future devices instead of this “

Did that guy say he wants an android over a WP7 device? God…….

@Paul, I think you should wait and see what Nokia comes up with when they release their first wp7s. Besides this partnership is different and has been signed, so Nokia has no choice but to keep wp7 as their top smartphone os for a very long time (unlike maemo and meego which were developed by them). Plus there is also the billions of dollars their getting from microsoft which guarantees that windows phone will power nokia devices for years. I personally can\’t wait to have one when they release those lovely devices.

Although I’m sad to see the possiblity of symbian slowly disappearing (I really hope they still keep Symbian 3 developing and improving it, even if it isn’t going to be their primary focus when WP7 is properly online…), I have to agree with MADol – I’m keen to see what Nokia can do with WP7. Switching to iOS is definitely not an option (way too simplistic and badly designed IMO) and Android floats somewhere between iOS and Symbian.

I know WP7 won’t be as open as Symbian (or possibly Android), but it is a new OS, and Nokia has needed a clean, quick OS to properly showcase their fantastic hardware with. I’m looking forward to seeing them hopefully grasp the opportunity to put out something that will be a match for the iPhone and the hi-end Android phones.

I love Symbian, but it’s really still an OS that comes down too much personal taste/experience due to it’s interface, as opposed to being easy-to-use and accessible to the unitiated like the iPhone. I hope WP7 is what Nokia needs to put Apple and it’s over-hyped devices exactly where they belong – shiny, good looking but all glamour over substance (well, at least with the iPhone 4, iPads and older iPhones are a really boring, stale design. This is Nokia’s chance to put out style and substance with a fresh new OS that critics can’t keep comparing to Symbian (those endless slatings of the OS, repeating the same (and often incorrect) whingings that make them sound like mangy old dogs with equally mangy old bones to chew on).
