The concept of a mobile train ticketing app just make sense – after all, what's the one piece of technology you have with you when you get to the train station? So we're happy to bring you details of Chiltern's new mobile ticketing app for Nokia mobile phones – read on for more.
Chiltern Railways primarily links London's Marylebone station to Birmingham via the Chiltern Main Line, and is relied on daily by thousands of commuters to get to and from home.
So life has undoubtedly become a little easier today with Chiltern's announcement of a new mobile ticketing scheme that allows passengers to user their mobile phones to purchase and download tickets via a dedicated app for their upcoming journeys on the network.
The app, which has been developed by London-based Masabi in consulation with Atos Origin, can be used to buy and download e-tickets able to be scanned by readers installed in stations.
“This app places a ticket machine in the pocket of mobile phone users – providing an enormously convenient and user-friendly means of searching for train times and then buying and displaying tickets,” Masabi chief executive Ben Whitaker said of the scheme.
Chiltern is the first rail network to adopt the service, but more operators are being lined up to join the scheme, with the goal of covering the entire UK rail network in due course.
The app is available across most mobile platforms, including all versions of Symbian on Nokia mobile phones. For more information, check out the Chiltern Railways site, while to download the app, simply head to http://app.chilternrailways.co.uk/ on your Nokia's web browser.
