There are all kinds of ways to stay entertained these days, but sometimes old tricks are the best tricks, and the Nokia C5-03's built-in radio provides some old-fashioned entertainment with a digital twist. Here we show you how to use it.

Your mobile phone's radio doesn't have much in common with the old wireless you might still have in the kitchen, but it does the same basic job – and that's to bring the world of radio to your ears.

Check out our Nokia C5-03 Symbian S60 5th Edition user guide

To get started with the Nokia C5-03's radio, tap the Menu button, then select Music on the top right, and finally Radio from the options that appear. At this point your Nokia C5-03 will prompt you to plug in a pair of headphones, without which you can't go any further as these act as an antenna. That's not to say you can't listen through the phone's loudspeaker – you can, and we'll go into how to do it further on, but you need to keep a pair of headphones plugged in at all times to use the radio, even once you have switched to loudspeaker mode. If you're opening the radio for the first time, you'll be asked if you'd like the radio to scan for stations automatically; tap Yes and the first four preset station slots (out of an available total of 20) will automatically be filled.

All going well, you should now be hearing the first preset station coming through your headphones. The basic radio interface couldn't be simpler to use. There are three control buttons along the button, letting you switch to the next or previous station in your preset list, separated by a mute button.

The rest of the screen simply displays the name of the station you're listening to (where available), however tap anywhere on this main area and a volume slider will appear – a great touch well executed.

For adding new stations, fine-tuning and managing your preset list, tap the Options menu on the bottom left. The Stations option will list all 20 of your preset slots, and the stations you have saved to each position. Select one of the stations by tapping on it, then tap Options and you'll be given the option to rename the station, or delete it altogether.Returning to the main Options window, below Stations is the Tune station option, which is how you find new stations. Use the up and down arrow keys to travel through the frequency range, then when you find a station you like, tap Options and Save to save it to memory.

Next up is Activate loudspeaker, which speaks for itself, then below that Alternative Frequencies. If you choose to activate this feature, your Nokia C5-03 will automatically scan for the same station on a different frequency whenever the signal is poor.

Last up is Play in background, which keeps the radio playing the station it's currently on, but hides the interface so you can get on with other things.
