Qt Quick 3D Download Now Available

The first Nokia MeeGo device is set to appear at some point in 2011 and will rely heavily on the Qt ecosystem. So, the arrival of Qt Quick 3D is big news as this Qt research project to bring Qt convenience and portability to OpenGL code is a huge step forward for the platform. Nokia's commitment to Qt remains undiminished and the arrival of Qt Quick 3D, which started life back in 2009 as a simple research project. The software is still very much in development, as I the integration with Qt Quick, and it's worth bearing in mind the release isn't for general users but for developers looking to offer feedback and help.

There are four development packs available, one for Maemo 5 and the Nokia N900, one for Symbian and the Nokia N8, Win 7 – msvc (for Qt 4.7.3 msvc) and finally for Linux/Max (source package). So, if you're a developer and looking to try it out, what can you do with Qt Quick 3D right now? - Create a QML application that features 3D content - Load models made in 3D studio max or Blender into your app - Add stock shapes such as cylinders and cubes - Insert inline shader code into the QML to create neat effects - Animate your scene with geometric animations such as rotate, translate and scale - Control your scenes with QML states, transitions and animations Write app logic in JavaScript, and use Qt Quick 2D alongside your 3D content
