Early next month the mobile world's attention will be tuned into a big event not in a faraway location like California, but right here in London. We're talking about the Open Mobile Summit, and with Nokia boss Stephen Elop lined up as speaker, could there be another exciting Nokia announcement just around the corner?
We've certainly been spoilt for Nokia news so far in 2011. First there was the big step to embrace Windows Phone 7, and all the intriguing possibilities that are opened up as a result for both devices and new services in Nokia's future. But we've also had plenty to digest for the present, including confirmation that Symbian^3 is very much alive and well with the release of the Symbian Anna-running Nokia E6 and Nokia X7. So with Elop having been lined up to deliver a prominent keynote at the Open Mobile Summit, which takes place in London on June 8 and 9, we're left wondering what else Nokia has up its sleeve. Elop's half-hour address is titled: “Thinking big: Creating a truly global mobile ecosystem”, a topic that certainly is wide open to interpretation. Of course, just last week Nokia announced the rebranding of its Ovi portfolio of services to move back under the Nokia name over the next 18 months, and we could certainly hope to hear more about that. There's also the ongoing hunger for more details on the Windows Phone 7 partnership, and just what the Nokia phones on the platform will have to offer. Let's not forget that the word “ecosystem” has specifically been used many times by both Elop and Microsoft boss Steve Ballmer to describe their partnership. One thing's for sure – we don't expect the Nokia CEO to talk for half an hour and reveal nothing at all worth repeating, so what do you think it will be? What exciting news has Nokia got lined up for us next month? Give us your thoughts in the Comments below.
