Yesterday saw Nokia unveiling another two new face to freshen up its lineup as we head into the summer: the dual SIM Nokia X1-01 and Nokia C2-00. But what's the deal with dual SIMs and what does it mean to you? We take a closer look after the cut.

The Nokia X1-01 may not be in the same league as the new Nokia X7 at the top of the X Series, range, but this entry-level handset still has plenty of no-frills cheer to offer.

Nokia X1-01 dual SIM dual standby feature phone announced

It runs the basic Series 30 operating system, and lives up to its X Series billing with an on-board MP3 player, FM radio and a formidable speaker round the back capable of delivering 106 phons of audio grunt.

But the real eye-opener is its ability to split its love between two SIM cards, a feature clearly aimed at developing markets where sharing a phone might be a necessity. There's room for a pair of SIMs inside the Nokia X1-01, and you're able to switch seamlessly between them, even getting notifications of calls and messages waiting on one SIM card while you're using the other. It's a simple enough feature, but a welcome presence on the Nokia X1-01. So much so, in fact, that our friends over at Nokia Conversations have decided to take a closer look at the dual SIM concept and its practical applications to the everyday mobile user.

They've come up with a list of six essential advantages, from being able to stick local and foreign SIMs in your phone to reduce roaming costs to improving your chances of coverage in remote areas by using SIMs from two different providers.

There are some excellent arguments made, and some interesting ideas for making the dual SIM concept play to your advantage.

We'd love to hear your own thoughts on the matter, though.

Do dual SIM phones have a place in the mainstream mobile market, and what interesting ways could the feature be put to use to improve the mobile experience on the Nokia X1-01 and other handsets? Give us your thoughts in the Comments below!
