Flowd is a social network site based around music. In theory, it lets you listen to your favourite tracks on the move and share them with your mates, but is it top of the pops or does it fail to live up to its promise? Join us after the break...
Flowd is compatible with other social networks – such as Facebook – so you'll be able to keep track of your friends and keep them informed of what gigs you're going to see, or what music you're listening to.
Unfortunately, this also means the app has access to all your Facebook details – including friends, interests and other information that may be of relevance to the app.
It's not really a problem – if you're happy to share information with Facebook it's hardly private in the first place – but allowing the app access to your Facebook wall before you can sign in does seem a little invasive.
Once you've signed in, you can get picking artists. Flowd offers the chance to “follow your favourite artists”, but the app fails in one huge area – it doesn't have the big record publishers on board. As such, the bands on Flowd are all eclectic, unusual and there's actually no sign of our favourite artists! We've been told that big names DJs, such as Armin Van Buuren (world’s no.1 DJ), Marcus Schulz and Gareth Emery are on there, as well as boy band The Wanted but that's about it for now in terms of 'names'.
If you do find bands you like – and the app is definitely good for finding new music – you can then follow bands (as you would on MySpace, Twitter or Facebook), see what they're all up to, and check out where the best gigs are.
The app itself is easy to use, well laid out and it makes following artists and keeping in touch with friends easy. However, it's a huge shame that Flowd is missing out on the big artists, as it completely ruins the app for us.
