We've already taken a look today at what makes the Nokia N8's camera so special. But Nokia isn't resting on its laurels, and has a great new video-friendly update heading exclusively to the top-of-the-range N Series smartphone, which will add 30fps video support with continuous autofocus.
Increasing the frame rate from the Nokia N8's current 25fps means smoother videos, especially when recording fast-moving action, while continuous autofocus means the camera constantly adjusts focus even when the distance to the focal point changes while recording.
Nokia N8: How to Shoot HD Video
Nokia N8 photographers have certainly had to wait for the new features to arrive. Nokia photography guru Damian Dinning referred to both as being likely additions as future updates in interviews about the Nokia N8 when it was still in pre-production last year.
Since then, both features have been made available as hacks, while continuous autofocus has appeared as an Ovi Store app.
But if Dinning's latest comments on Twitter are to be believed, both new features will only hit their full potential after the Symbian Anna update heads out for the Nokia N8. That's when we can expect a further Nokia N8-specific update to emerge to add still more photographic smarts to the N Series flagship.
Dinning then appeared to confirm as much by commenting directly on a My Nokia Blog piece on the subject: “As soon as this update is available I’ll be posting full details and background behind why we’re implementing some things the way we are so you can get the most out of the changes/improvements we’re bringing,” Dinning wrote.
“It wouldn’t be appropriate for me to promise any specific date at this time, but would like to assure you that we want you to have this update as quickly as we can get it to you. Your continued patience is appreciated.”
So there it is – still more reason to love the Nokia N8's camera abilities. And besides that, ample evidence that Nokia is working hard on setting the bar still higher on future Nokia smartphone releases. We can't wait.
