Nokia Battery Monitor 2 is a neat little utility that takes the guess work out of how much battery life you have left on your Nokia N8 and which services and apps are using the most of your resources. You can choose to have the app running in the background on your Nokia N8 or you can select it as a widget to run on one of your homescreens.
If you choose this latter version, you’ll find the widget scrolls through the various options on the apps mainstream. The widget scrolls through the various estimates that can be seen in whole on the main page of the app. It's a great way of seeing at a glance how much battery life you have left. You can finetune this by tapping the examples you wish to appear, which is a really nice idea. For example, if you use the camera a lot, or the music player on your Nokia N8, you can choose to have those pop up.
Once you open Nokia Battery Monitor 2 you’ll be confronted with three different pages. The first is Estimates, which breaks down into the various sub-heading you can have appear on the widget. So, Average, Call (3G), Web, Music, Maps and Camera.
There is also a large battery countdown – kind of like the totaliser on Blue Peter but working in reverse – letting you know the overall percentage of battery life left. For example, our Nokia N8 was at 90 per cent battery, which translated at 2.2 Days of average use, or 9 hours and 40 minutes of talk time. Then again, 32 hours and 40 minutes of music playback or 4 hours and 20 minutes of internet use was also on offer.
In this way, Nokia Battery Monitor 2 is a great way of seeing how much battery you have before you'll need recharge your Nokia N8, so if you're planning on heavy usage you’ll be prepared.
If Estimates is all about the battery life you have yet to use, Statistics is about tracking usage and details the battery life you’ve already had. We really like this aspect of Nokia Battery Monitor 2 on our Nokia N8 as it offers you the chance to see Today, Past Week, or even All Time, which is pretty neat for those who need to keep tabs on things long term.
Power Save is what takes Nokia Battery Monitor 2 into a new league of its own as it allows you to tap into powering saving mode with ease. You can set the brightness of the display and also the length of time your Nokia smartphone will stay lit up before going into idle mode. By default it's at 50 per cent for screen brightness, dropping down to 0 per cent when in power saving mode, so you can best gauge what works best for you.
