Nokia's commitment to developing alternative energy sources is well established, and its latest project is the Nokia Solar Charging Project – a three-month study over the summer to explore the real-world practicalities of solar charging.
The idea behind the Nokia Solar Charging Project is a simple one: while we all understand the principles behind solar power – and the benefits – actual hard data is quite hard to come by – especially data on ways to put solar charging to effective use in those places where it would actually make a real difference.
That's what the Nokia Solar Charging Project aims to explore. It's about finding solutions to help those people who live in parts of the world where you can’t just plug in and load up whenever you feel like it.

Over the summer months, a diverse group of testers will be documenting their experiences with solar charging in scenarios as diverse as a Kenyan rain forest, the Arctic Circle, a Swedish forest and sailing on the Baltic Sea.
Each of the testers will be exploring the practicalities of solar charging using a specially modified Nokia C1-02, and their adventures will be showcased on the dedicated Nokia Solar Charging Blog.
It promises to be an exciting project, and for a great cause. So make sure to check in on these intrepid Nokia volunteers and their solar charging adventures – and make sure you are part of the conversation for change by contributing your own thoughts and questions on the subject!
