The days are counting down to the appearance of Nokia's first Windows Phone, but CEO Stephen Elop has insisted that Nokia remains fully committed to Symbian for the immediate future regardless, promising up to 10 new Symbian-based smartphones over the next 12 months alone.
Symbian Anna devices announced for July, updates in August
Speaking at the Nokia Connection 2011 event in Sinapore, the Nokia boss emphatically dismissed suggestions that Symbian would simply be making up the numbers until the Windows Phone project was fully on its feet. In fact, with Nokia offering continued support to the platform until 2016, it would seem plans for Symbian OS are well afoot.
The recent launch of the Nokia E6 and Nokia X7 – complete with the new-look Symbian Anna on board – certainly made that point plainly enough, of course, and Elop revealed that the Anna update would be heading to other Symbian^3 devices – including the Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Nokia C6-01 and Nokia C7 – by the end of August.
But he also revealed the exciting news that we can look forward to a further 10 new Symbian-based smartphones to emerge over the next 12 months – and that'll be alongside the first Nokia Windows Phones that'll be breaking cover over the same period.
Exciting news indeed – and we can't wait to see the Symbian treats Nokia has lined up for us in the months to come!
