And then there were three. The Nokia C2-03 Touch and Type is the third Nokia handset to carry the “T&T” name, and the first ever to feature a slide-out number pad. So what sort of impact has it made on the wider tech community? Join us for a selection of the leading comments.

Nokia C2-02, Nokia C2-03, Nokia C2-06 Touch and Type launched at Nokia Connection 2011

The Nokia C2-03 Touch and Type – along with its Nokia C2-02 and Nokia C2-06 variant – was announced at Nokia Connection 2011, and confirms Nokia's ongoing commitment to delivering practical innovation to developing markets around the world.

It's the first ever Series 40 device to have Nokia Maps running on board, for instance, while it also delivers the convenience of dual-SIM functionality with dual-standby. That might not sound like much when compared to the advanced features on today's top smartphones, but that's not the target market Nokia is aiming for here – a point GSMArena was quick to point out:

“It is important to note that Nokia will target mainly the developing markets with the C2-03, where... having a Nokia C2-03 will enable people to get a taste of premium phone services without the high price tag.”

Pocket-lint made a similar point, emphasising the Nokia C2-03's everyday appeal: “Specs-wise, this phone is no great shaker, it's more practical than spectacular but you will get 400 hours of standby, 5 hours of talk-time and 35 hours of music playback.”

Recombu, meanwhile, raised the interesting point that there's more than a little touch of Symbian Anna in the Nokia C2-03's touchscreen interface: “All three phones run on a touchscreen version of Symbian Series 40 that appears to have borrowed some visual cues from Symbian Anna – the app icons in the press images all have those rounded square icon shapes which we understand Nokia refers to as ‘squircles’ internally. Cute.”

Overall, the package was given the thumbs-up by Fonehome: “The company has always excelled at creating solid and affordable phones for emerging markets, and the Nokia C2-02, C2-03 and C2-06 look like three smart additions to that line.”

Considering no-one has been able to get their hands on the Nokia C2-03 just yet, that's about as firm a verdict as you're likely to see at this stage. But for our money, ElectricPig came closest to summarising our own thoughts on the Nokia C2-03: “The Nokia C2-03 is still worthy of note, because it’s cheap (just €77 unlocked), and the smartest dual-sim 'dumbphone' we’ve seen.”
