It's surprising how often we come across foreign phrases and words these days, so having a useful utility like Translate on hand is certainly useful. We've been putting it through its paces on the Nokia C5-03 to get a closer look.

There's nothing overly complicated about Translate: it's a free translation app built around Google Translate that lets you type translate words or phrases between 45 different languages with the touch of a button.
It couldn't be easier to use, either. Simply type in your text into the top window – using the standard Symbian S60 5th Edition text entry tools – select your Translate From and To languages, hit the magic button and your translation is presented instantly in the bottom window.
The fact that it uses Google Translate inspires confidence, and provides plenty of versatility too: we're not talking translations between English and 44 other languages here – should you ever need to translate between Catalan and Yiddish, for instance, this is the tool for you.
For the most part, then, it's an impressive utility to have at your fingertips, but there are limitations. It's purely data-based, so you need to go online every time you use it, which isn't ideal if you're looking for translation help in a foreign country, for instance.
There's also no way of copying text, either into the text entry window, or out of the translated text window. And we initially thought it was a purely portrait-orientated app, too – on switching the phone to landscape mode the app simply turned on its side without stretching to fit the aspect ratio, at least it did the entire time we were using it until we sat the phone done, at which point it magically resized without an issue!
That aside, Translate does its job well, and is ideal to have on hand for quick translations of everyday words or phrases you might discover while you're out and about. Just be careful if you choose to take it further afield, as those data costs could be a headache in anyone's language.
