The Symbian Anna-powered Nokia X7 is now on sale, and if you've just ordered one, you no doubt can't wait to crack open the packaging and get your hands on its cool stainless steel chassis and press the Power button.
Nokia X7 and Symbian Anna in detailed Hands-On Review
Once you do, however, there are probably a few quick tasks to get out the way before you dive into the Nokia X7's many exciting features and start getting to grips with Symbian Anna. We'll be taking you through all the Nokia X7's features step by step over the weeks and months to come, but in the meantime we're going to take you through a few quick basics to get you started.
Before we do, though, let's quickly remind ourselves just what the Nokia X7 has to offer.
There's no question that it makes a serious visual impression, thanks in equal part to its 4-inch AMOLED screen and its unusually bold stainless steel design. The camera is an 8-megapixel affair with 720p video recording, and connectivity highlights include the likes of WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0.
As we've already mentioned, Symbian Anna keeps things looking attractive on the software side too, and you've got 8GB of microSD storage as standard.
So what are the first five things you should do after switching on your new Nokia X7 for the first time? Try these out for starters...
1 Set the time
An obvious starting point, and a simple one to tick off on the Nokia X7. Use either the dedicated Date/Time homescreen widget, and you'll be done in seconds. You can set alarms here too.
2 Copy your contacts
Move all those valuable contacts from your old phone to new by copying them to a microSD card and inserting it into your new Nokia X7. Then simply head for Menu, Contacts, then SIM numbers and select Copy All to Phone.
3 Get yourself online
Depending on your provider you may already have mobile internet thrown into your deal, but you can also use Wi-Fi to access your home broadband network. Select Menu, Settings, Connectivity and then WLAN. Your home network should be listed in the options, so just select it and follow the prompts to get connected.
4 Set up your email
The Nokia X7 supports all the top email providers, and getting set up to have your mails fired straight to your homescreen is as simple as tapping Menu, Applications and then Email. Choose from the provided options (or tap Other), then enter your email account details. Job done!
5 Change the ringtone
The time-honoured practice of choosing a ringtone is central to making a new phone feel like it's really yours. From the homescreen, tap on your profile name (which should be General if you're just starting up), then select Edit active profile, Ringing tone, line 1. You can then browser the folders that appear for a sound you like, or download one from the web.
As you'll find once you're holding the Nokia X7 in your hand, this is only the tip of the iceberg, and it'll no doubt be a long time before you put it down again – which is no bad thing in our book!
