Symbian Anna brings a bunch of new features to Nokia's leading smartphone platform, some of them purely cosmetic and others working away under the surface. One example of the latter – and a feature that never goes wrong in anyone's book, can be summed up in one little word: speed.

Symbian Anna Nokia Web Browser 7.3 Hands-on review

We've already been getting to grips with Symbian Anna thanks to the launch of the Nokia E6 and the Nokia X7, with the rest of Nokia's existing Symbian^3 phones set to receive the update over the air in the next month.

A new version of the Nokia web browser is one of the most prominent parts of the deal – Nokia Browser 7.3 – and as our Hands-on Review has already attested, it's both smoother and faster to use than the existing version 7.2.

And now we have some figures to show it. AllAboutSymbian has put both browsers through their paces in a series of side-by-side speed tests, and in just about every case Nokia Browser 7.3 came out well ahead.

The handsets chosen for the test were the Nokia C7 (Nokia Browser 7.2) and the Nokia X7 (Nokia Browser 7.3), and the latter was consistently 25 to 40 per cent faster than the Nokia C7 – with Wikipedia the only anomaly in an otherwise consistent pattern.

Check out the results for yourself – it's certainly makes for another serious stamp of approval for Symbian Anna.

Have you been getting to grips with Anna on your new Nokia E6 or Nokia X7? We'd love to hear whether you've noticed a speed boost to your browsing yourself – let us know in the Comments!
