Russian Fishing is one of those odd little games that pop up on the Nokia Ovi Store that make you think something like fishing would be fun. We've checked it out on our Nokia N8 but it can be played on any Symbian^3 smartphone. Find out how we got on with our Russian Fishing review.
Never been fishing, never been tempted to go fishing and the idea of sitting on a river bank in the rain waiting for something to happen is a bit too close to waiting for a bus in Manchester on a Sunday afternoon for our liking.
Best HD Games For Nokia N8 Smartphone
That said, games like Russian Fishing always seem to pique the interest of the casual smartphone gamer as they offer a little fun and the thrill of the chase. The game itself is quite sedate. You're shown an overhead map of a river bend with various fishing spots highlighting for you to choose from.
Once you've picked a spot to fish the game view switches to first person and all you can see is the edge of your boat, the water and your fishing rod. In the left-hand corner is a Rod icon that when you tap it starts to real in. The game isn't overly sophisticated, you get a strike and then start to real in your rod.
However, we found that even getting the smallest fish to land was tricky, which can be a more than a little frustrating. Once you've landed your fish you can head off to the store to sell it and with the money buy better equipment, which makes the game easier!
Russian Fishing works best when you've got time on your hands to play and the patience to stare and the water and wait.
