What is your secret second Nokia?

If you're heading out on the town, you won't want to risk damaging your high-end Nokia N8 or Nokia E7. That's where your second Nokia handset comes in – your secret second that comes out to play when you do. We've got five great suggestions that are perfect for the job.

Most of us have more than one mobile phone these days, but there's plenty of reason for your second phone to be more than just a hand-me-down or ageing relic from a previous contract.

Nokia has a huge array of affordable phones that are ideal understudies to your premium smartphone, giving you all the core features you need but in a package that's more compact, more affordable and more suited to being tucked away in a jeans pocket or handbag. Here are five options to think about...

Nokia C5-03
It's a decent enough first-liner in its own right, but the Nokia C5-03 is also a great second phone, offering a compact and lightweight design without leaving you short of features. It's good looking too, making it an ideal fashion accessory for a night on the town.

Nokia X3-02 Touch and Type
For a feature phone with an edge, look no further than the Nokia X3-02 Touch and Type. It's got all the key features you need, and throws in a unique twist: a touchscreen-keypad combo that's great for typing in email addresses or getting phone numbers.

Nokia C3
For the busy social networker, it's important to stay in touch at all times, so why not have a QWERTY keyboard on hand for updating your connections on all the latest happenings on Facebook and Twitter? The Nokia C3 is slimmer than the average QWERTY campaigner, and more budget-friendly too.

Nokia 5230
If you're looking for an elegant touchscreen phone but can't stretch as far as a Nokia C5-03, then why not opt for a Nokia 5230 instead? It's just as good looking, and while it doesn't quite reach the same high standards on the feature count, it's more than up to keeping you in touch on a night out.

Nokia C1-01
For many of us, heading out means getting a break from our always-on modern lifestyles. If this is you, having something like a Nokia C1-01 tucked away in a drawer means you can leave behind that powerful smartphone of yours while still being well equipped for calls, texts and the odd email.

Got the N8 as my regular phone (fingers crossed I can get my hands on an N9, i’m in the UK so maybe not..) My spare phone is an old Nokia N70 Music Edition, this comes with me to gigs and festival so my N8 doesnt get damaged.

Sporting 5530 XM as 2nd, with N900 being the primary one. Inclined to make it even a THIRD one (was wondering to scout the competition, i.e. get a WP7 phone).

Nokia X6 first phone and 5530 and my back up :P

    5800 XM as an alternative.

I’m going to use my Nokia 3230 as backup. I have been using it until now, but I have ordered a new 6700 classic, which will be my primary phone, hopefully. X3-02 touch and type would have been great alternative (and super backup phone too) but it has no GPS – and maps/nav would have been only smart feature I like :( . It also does not have a low SAR, and I don’t understand why it has the touchscreen… Looks good on the outside though.

    i don’t think 5230 is a secod mobile

I use an E72 as a backup for my N8 mostly when I am saltwater fishing as I’d rather not give the N8 a bath in saltwater!

i have an e5 which was in the cuboard since i got n8 …. but now s i see the camera module getting bruiised (the portion on which the phone rests lower side just below the speaker) the colour is wearing out
