Hey, Nokia is bigger than Coca Cola, Levis, Nike, Bic

If you're in any doubt as to just how big Nokia is as a global brand, here's a statistic for you: there are 225 million Symbian users around the globe. That's a seriously big number, and enough to confirm Nokia as one of the world's true super-brands.

A former Nokia executive turned brand analyst was quoted as saying this week that “more people use a Nokia phone than drink a Coca Cola, than wear Levis' jeans, than tell time on a Timex watch, than wear Nike running shoes, than smoke Marlboro cigarettes, or write with a Bic pen”.

That's some pretty illustrious company, and an indication of the kind of pull Nokia has the world over. In fact, in terms of brand value Nokia was the only non-US company listed in a global top 10 published at the end of last year.

Now of course 2011 is clearly a transition year but what these facts do indicate is that Nokia is undergoing that transition from a position of considerable strength.

So what other brands do you reckon Nokia outguns as a global entity, and where would you place Nokia in a world heirarchy of super-brands – and not necessarily just among technology firms either! Let us know in the Comments.
