Nokia 500 leads naming convention change

Nokia has changed the naming convention of its phones, doing away with the likes of the N Series and C Series in favour of a simplified numbering system. Read on to find out more about new Nokia naming convention.

We’ve all suffered from it, trying to work out which Nokia is right for us. Should we be tempted by the Nokia C3 with its full QWERTY keyboard or choose the slightly higher specced Nokia C3-01? Wait, a minute, the C3-01 is a candybar phone with a Touch and Type display, now that’s a bit odd?

Add to this the confusing fact of the lettering system, do you know if you need an X Series or C Series, when in truth you may wish to pick a little from either.

Which is why Nokia has announced it’s making things simple, by dropping the current system and opting for a three digit naming convention instead. The first number tells you where it sits in the Nokia hierarchy of tech developments, with 1 being the lowest and 9 being the highest. This means Nokia can release 99 devices in any class of device without having to reuse the number, now that makes sense.

As you can see, finding out which Nokia is right for you, both in terms of price point and tech-level expectation just got a little simpler.

The Nokia 500 is perhaps the perfect example of the new system in action. It sits at that crossroads between the high-end smartphones and entry-level feature phones. It’s affordable but with a tech spec that speaks for itself: Symbian Anna, 1GHz processor, 5-Megapixel camera and a 3.2-inch touchscreen.

So what do you think of the new Nokia naming convention, simple and elegant, or will you miss the build of a new N Series? Let us know your thoughts in the Comments below.

    idk why but i dont like it :p

    i hope they use letters with the high-end devices at lest

    or maybe
    Mxx = meego
    Wxx = WP
    Sxx = Symbian
    Bxx = bisnuse
    xxx = S40
    :D

    this will give them 99 new name :D

    It makes it easier to understand but the c,x,n and e series all had different purposes

    N = Nokia’s most advanced series for multimedia, connectivitey and many other features

    E = Buisness smart phones

    C = affordable series for social networking

    X = Targeted at youth for music and entertainment

    Nokia had a good system which no longer exists c series phones were selling really well and I am looking to buy the c3.
    This could ruin nokia or it could progress them ??
