Symbian Anna: why you should upgrade

It's here! Nokia has released the Symbian Anna update for the Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Nokia C7 and Nokia C6-01. The update brings the latest and greatest version of the Symbian operating system to this high-flying quartet with a stack of great new features.

Symbian Anna is a major revision of the Symbian OS and brings a new look, with rounded icon sets that look much more touchscreen friendly and the UI has been tweaked so that it feels more like an OS designed for fingertips than earlier versions.

Nokia users have been calling for a portrait-mode on-screen QWERTY keyboard, and Symbian Anna delivers, throwing in split-screen text entry too for good measure.

Social networking integration means you can see friends' status updates in their contact details and you can post pics directly to Twitter from the gallery. The web browser is a complete rewrite with an all-new rendering engine based on WebKit, just like the iPhone and Android phones.

Ovi Maps has been boosted too with smarter search and integration with Foursquare check-ins, Facebook and Twitter.

The Nokia N8 benefits specifically from an update to the camera which enables 30fps video recording at 720p, while Nokia C7 owners can now take advantage of the handset's NFC capability thanks to the update.

Joining the Symbian Anna party is as simple as grabbing your phone and heading over to our simple guide to upgrading. It is very easy and in no time at all you will be enjoying a whole new mobile experience.

Once you have made the switch, we'd love to hear your initial impressions about Symbian Anna. Do you have a favourite new feature or enhancement? Let us know in the comments.

Please bring back the double-tap zoom shortcut in the browser. It has been very useful aside from the pinch-to-zoom feature…..

I got an Icon in ‘Applications’ as “Signal Boost”….after installing ANNA…..when I click it…got error message as “System Error…” and the icon disappeared….

Anybody noticed this ???? and what was that???

  • Nyokchelsea

i dont like the features of the new icons. the old ones are much better though…

  • Dean Fredericks

No split screen qwerty for Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesian, and China models. Really disappointing… Considering that the icons and homescreen updates are just cosmetic, its been a long 10 months for for Anna, all for nothing.

same happen to me when I installed Anna…there is the icon…when I click it it disappeared and the system error appeared….don’t know what is happening…

  • Letizedi

I really like the older version of the phonebook….with Anna…it is just plain black and white…not matching with my eyes….hurts my eyes to look at the phonebook…

Rash and Dean. I accepted your comment. Here, I’m in Cambodia also facing same problem. Really wonder how many people switch to using Iphone… Shame on Nokia

I had this too. It disappeared and I presume that it was the UMA/GAN support. It is a pity that it has disappeared

    1) first it takes ages to log into facebook….’unable to log in to gateway’…then when finally in, lousy speed…

    2) contact photos do not come up when using speed dial. They do when I call from address book?

    3) never had cover art for albums in music player…anyone know how to the cover art?

    4) won’t automatically connect to home wifi?

otherwise I like the split typing screen but wont use the QWERTY as keys are far too small and can’t get used to calander yet

Would really appreciate any help on these issues

    tks

This is totally crap improvement. I like the previous version better than this shit. I am thinking to restore the factory settings, even though I will lose many things what I have installed since I bought my C7. Nokia, do something better than this, otherwise you will lose your status in the mobile phone market. Sorry if it happened, because I am from Finland, where the Nokia mother company belongs to.
