It's the biggest event in the mobile technology world's calendar, and Nokia will be there in full force. We're talking about Mobile World Congress, and even though it's still half a year away, Nokia already has big plans for the showpiece event.
Mobile World Congress takes place every February in Barcelona, and traditionally sees just about every mobile firm that matters showcasing its upcoming handsets and developing technologies.
This year's event happened right as Nokia was announcing its plans to adopt Windows Phone as its primary smartphone platform, but Nokia is already planning on making a major impact at Mobile World Congress 2012.
Nokia communications director Mark Squires confirmed as much by Twitter: “We're going to Mobile World Congress Barca in a big way next year, Nokia to exhibit at AppPlanet & our CEO @selop will also keynote.”
Just in case you need that last bit clarified, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop will be one of the event's keynote speakers. Squires has since revealed that Nokia's presence at MWC will involve a huge 2300 square metre stand, which will make it one of the most high-profile attendees of all.
We're already getting excited just thinking about just what might be filling that 2300-square metre floor space six months from now – we can certainly imagine more than a couple of Nokia Windows Phones clamouring for our attention, though we'll just have to wait and see. Mobile World Congress 2012 runs from February 27 to March 1 next year.
