For generations the card game Solitaire has been helping people while away those dull moments when there's nothing much to do, and nobody to do it with. Does this virtual version for the Nokia C5-03 live up to those standards? Read on to find out.

It's amazing how a single deck of cards can give you something to do even if you're just stuck indoors by yourself on a rainy day. Of course, if you have your Nokia C5-03 to hand there are plenty of other things you could do to stay busy, but sometimes it's nice to kick back with a simple and steady game like Solitaire.

And that's exactly what you get in Solitaire Touch. We've come across fairly minimalist games before, but this takes things to a whole new level. When you load up the game, you have a choice of three on-screen buttons – an 'i' for more information, a Play button in the middle to launch the game, and a close button to the right. An for the record, the 'information' you get is a seven-word description of the version number, and the copyright details.

But still – isn't Solitaire supposed to be uncomplicated? Tap the Play button to start up a new game and you'll see the familiar seven piles of cards, with the deck to the bottom left and the four spots to stack up cards from the various suites down the right.

The game is entirely touch-operated, and in fact there's only two things you can do at any one time: press-and-drag one or more cards around, or tap for a new one from the deck.

This is fine for the most part, but to move a set of cards from one column to another you have to make sure you've pressed on the top-most card, which can be difficult if they're right at the top of the screen with no hidden cards behind. It generally took a few goes to get it right, which was frustrating.

Other than that, there isn't too much to complain about here – largely because there isn't very much to Solitair Touch to begin with. If you don't know how to play the game you're on your own, as there are no instructions of any kind, and the variations of game style, background and card decks we're used to seeing are notable by their absence too.

It's just Solitaire, pure and simple, and to be honest we quite like that. It's just a shame that there are one or two niggles letting it down.
