Nokia has announced the Nokia 700, a brand new next-generation Symbian handset that comes packing Symbian Belle, the latest evolution of Nokia's smartphone operating system. Read on for all the details on the Nokia 700!
We got our first taste of Nokia's new naming convention when the Nokia 500 was announced last month, but the Nokia 700 spices things up still further by marking the debut of Symbian Belle, the next step forward in Symbian's development, which builds on the good work already done by the recently released Symbian Anna.
Nokia's new naming convention explained
The Nokia 700 shares the 1GHz processor and relatively compact 3.2-inch screen size found on the Nokia 500, but in fact is a considerably more upmarket handset.
That touchscreen, for instance, is an AMOLED ClearBlack Display panel, and like the recently introduced Nokia N9 sees the panel sit directly below the Gorilla Glass screen, making it look like icons are floating above the surface of the handset.
The Nokia 700 also boasts a 5-megapixel full focus camera with 720p HD video recording at 30fps, while you get 2GB of storage on board which of course can be topped up via microSD card.
With Symbian Belle on board, you can look forward to new features like resizeable free-form widgets, support for up to six homescreens, and a redesigned interface.
Also arriving with Symbian Belle is deep Near Field Communication (NFC) integration, which will make it possible to share photos from one phone to another just by tapping them together, or pair with an external accessory simply by tapping the phone against it.
It's a compelling mix of high-quality features in a compact handset, and together with the presence of Symbian Belle makes the new Nokia 700 an exciting new addition to the Nokia fold.
The Nokia 700 will be available in an interesting mix of colours including Cool Grey, Silver/White, Coral Red, Peacock Blue and Purple, and has been priced at €270 before taxes and subsidies.
