It's well established that the Nokia N8's 12-megapixel camera is the best mobile camera in the business. With that in mind, resident Nokia camera expert Ari Partinen has taken the time to share a few tips on the sometimes-neglected subject of photo editing.

To get top-quality photographs in any situation, you obviously need to start by taking a good photo – and fortunately the Nokia N8's peerless 12-megapixel camera with its premium Carl Zeiss optics gives you all the tools you need to do just that.

But while some traditionalists look down their noses at the mere mention of the subject, you can give your images even more impact with some subtle editing tweaks after the fact.

The key here is the world “subtle” of course, as it's easy to ruin a photo by being too heavy handed on the colour adjustments or effects. The good news is that the Nokia N8's on-board editing tools are just as impressive as the camera itself, and give you everything you need to achieve professional editing results right there on the handset itself.

And who better to showcase some of those tools than Ari Partinen, Nokia's senior camera design engineer and self-confessed photo enthusiast?

Ari has taken the time to share some of his wisdom on the Nokia Nseries blog, including pointers on using key editing tools such as the saturation and colour sliders effectively, and how even minor tweaks to things like brightness and contrast can help you achieve a better finished photograph.

He even shows a clever way of creating black and white images manually that allows you to make different parts of your image darker or lighter in isolation.

It's a piece worth reading for anyone with an interest in mobile photography, but especially for Nokia N8 owners looking to improve their understanding of the editing tools on board their handset and what they're capable of.
