Tetris HD for Symbian smartphones such as the Nokia N8, Nokia X7 and Nokia C7 was launched at the tail end of last year but you can now pick it up free from the Nokia Ovi Store. Tetris is one of those games that is synonymous with handheld gaming and with over 60 million players around the world who are we to argue. There have been a host of Tetris style games for all many of Symbian devices but Tetris HD for Symbian devices is worth downloading.

Tetris HD, for those who have no idea what we’re talking about, is a game where you need to make the various different shaped blocks line up, create a line and it disappears. Once the screen is full, it’s game over, so having nibble fingers and a logical brain are key to success.
EA, the guys behind Tetris HD have taken into account that older gamers will like the tried and tested format, while bringing the game bang up to date for newer players by offering two different modes. For old hands there is the 'Marathon' version where bricks steady get faster the longer you play, which means you need to hone your reflexes to improve.
If time is limited, or you want something of a new challenge, then ‘Magic’ mode is for you, as this version sets targets, such as clear 10 rows to win, for you to achieve. Aside from being time limited, this version also offers a host of boosters and tricks you can use to help you met your targets. There are five different spells to use and they can appear at any time, so you can never truly rely on them.
Tetris HD has been designed with touchscreen in mind, so getting the bricks to rotate and drop is fairly easy and we found the game nice and responsive to play. The game menus are a little trickier and we found on our Nokia N8 they were less responsive than we were hoping for.
It’s worth bearing in mind that while Tetris HD was written and launched with Symbian^3 in mind, it also works a dream on Symbian Anna devices, so no worries about it not working.
Tetris HD works exceedingly well and is a great version of the classic game, now with an added twist, that is a welcome addition to the Symbian cannon of games. Get your hands on it free from the Nokia Ovi Store.
