Apps are all about innovation, about taking an existing set of tools and creating something new with them. And it's to highlight the very best examples of innovation that Nokia set up the Calling All Innovators contest over in the US, and now we can reveal the winners.

This annual competition rewards the very best games and apps that have surfaced in a range of categories over the past year with some fantastic prizes.

The developers responsible for each category winner receive an impressive $150,000, while the two grand prize winners – a single app and game chosen from the category winners – earn their creators a further $100,000.

In total, 51 developers shared a whopping $4m in cash prizes between them in this year's Calling All Innovators contest, while Nokia also awarded the winners with a marketing promotion package valued at $1.9m.

So who are the winners, then? Let's tale a look!
