For arrival of the Symbian Anna update has been big news for a lot of Nokia smartphone users recently, but even those not getting the full Anna update can at least give their phone the Anna look and feel with a theme like Great Black v2.

This free theme is available for most Nokia smartphones, and brings with it a distinctive black and pink colour scheme that needless to say won't be to everyone's taste. There's also a new-look virtual keyboard too – in both landscape and portrait orientations – that looks pretty good, though when we installed the theme on our Symbian Anna-fuelled Nokia X7, this element took on a fairly distinctive blue background, which we found odd.

But the real bonus, and the component of Great Black v2 that makes it a very different proposition for Symbian S60 users than for newer-generation Symbian devices, is the inclusion of the Symbian Anna icon set as part of the deal.

So when we downloaded and set Great Black v2 on our Nokia C5-03, there we were looking at what for all the world looked just like a Symbian Anna device there in front of us. Of course, the illusion is shattered once you delve into your own downloaded apps – ones whose icons won't have come in the Great Black v2 set.

But it's a nice effect anyway, and it's completely free so we're hardly going to complain too loudly. What we will say is that there doesn't seem to be any kind of real visual flavour involved here – yes, the main pink and black look is distinctive, but it's restricted almost entirely to your main wallpaper.

In the end, if the Symbian Anna icons aren't part of why you're downloading it, there are certainly better themes out there than Great Black v2.

But for Symbian S60 devices such as the Nokia C5-03, the visual appeal of your very own taste of Symbian Anna makes this theme well worth downloading.
