The battle between the big app stores has become all about numbers, but here's a number you probably won't have heard: the average Ovi Store app is two and a half times as likely to be downloaded as your typical iOS app in the App Store.

Nokia Ovi Store hits 9 million downloads a day

Nokia has steadily built a significant catalogue of apps available in the Ovi Store, as well as a formidable user base of Symbian users around the globe who are regularly tapping into that rich library of content on a daily basis.

But if you listen to the loudest voices around, you'd think that iOS and Android are the only platforms worth being on when it comes to having decent apps to choose from.

And yes, both the Android Market and the Apple App Store number well into the hundreds of thousands when it comes to apps, but rest assured – quantity doesn't necessarily mean quality.

Nokia's Ovi Store may only boast a tenth of the apps you'll find on its iOS counterpart, but each of those apps is 160 per cent more likely to be downloaded according to the latest figures from market research firm Research2guidance. Compared to the Android Market the figure is even higher.

It illustrates the strength of the Nokia community, and how Nokia never loses sight of the fact that the point of on app store is not to run up numbers, but to provide value.

The ovi store has blossomed spectacularly well, the catalog has steadily grown to a great set of apps, it can easily vie for a place as a distinct third, and not a losing platform, far from it!
