Nokia is fully committed to its future with Windows Phone, but it also realises how important it is to have its family of developers fully on board too. That's why it has released a tool allowing Qt developers to port their apps across to the Microsoft platform.

Nokia senior VP Marco Argenti "excited" about Metro apps for Nokia Windows Phone

Windows Phone has been quietly building an army of developers interested in creating apps on the platform, which shows the degree of confidence the Microsoft OS is inspiring right now.

But of course Nokia already has a developer army of its own, and has invested heavily in the Qt environment. And it's not turning its back on either – in fact, far from it.

The new porting tools and associated instructions provide everything Qt developers need to get to grips with the Windows Phone APIs and the all-important Metro interface that plays such a prominent role in nearly everything that's good about Windows Phone from a visual point of view.

The instructions are contained in a white paper running at nearly 100 pages in length – proof if ever you needed it that both Nokia and Microsoft wants developers to be successful in their new partnership.

For more information – and links to download both the Qt porting tools and the associated instructions – check out the Windows Team Blog.

Are you a Qt developer who's been getting to grips with the Windows Phone environment? What are your impressions of the tools on offer and Nokia's attempts to ease the path of those looking to make the switch? Drop us a line with your thoughts in the comments below!
