Windows Phone 7.5 Mango Local Scout featureThe Windows Phone 7.5 Mango update is now officially available and comes packed with hundreds of new features to help your smartphone look and work better than ever before. We were at the launch in London to take a close look at Microsoft’s latest and greatest mobile OS and see just what Windows Phone 7.5 Mango will bring to the first range of Nokia Windows phones - as Nokia says, ‘the fightback starts now’.

When Stephen Elop announced Nokia would switch to Windows Phone back in February at Mobile World Congress 2011 in Barcelona, the Windows Phone Mango update seemed a very far way away. Thankfully, its now rolling out and clearing the way for the first Nokia Windows Phone.

10 things Windows Phone 7.5 Mango will bring to Nokia Windows phones

Building on the foundation of the original Windows Phone 7 OS, Windows Phone 7.5 Mango packs a range of new additions to improve the capability, usability and functionality of your Windows smartphone. Adding new features for enjoying your music, photos and videos; staying connected with friends and family; finding new places to explore as you travel; and helping you to stay mobile for longer, it already looks like a great update and is sure to be a hit.

Taking us through the new features, Microsoft’s team made it clear that a key aim of Windows Phone 7.5 Mango is to improve how you stay in contact with your friends and family. Bringing new features such as built-in support for Twitter, LinkedIn, along with the existing Facebook tools, it is now easier than ever to update all of your social networks in one move and stay up to date with what all your friends are up to.

Tools such as the new Groups feature go a step further, helping you to bring your contacts together and categorise them based on how you most often interact with them. You can have groups for colleagues, friends, family and anything in between, providing a simple way to check on a whole group of people and see all their updates in a single page on your Windows phone.

It’s not all just about staying in touch, though. Windows Phone 7.5 Mango also brings a range of features to help you keep entertained wherever you go. Bing Music lets you identify any song you hear and instantly buy it from Zune Marketplace; Local Scout tracks your location via GPS and then suggests fun and interesting things you can do in your local area; and Video Sharing lets you record video and instantly upload it to your Facebook page or send via email in one easy step.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Using Windows Phone 7.5 Mango for ourselves has only confirmed what a great operating system it is and has got us even more excited to see it in action on the next generation of Nokia handsets. The OS is being rolled out to Windows smartphones as we speak and while there’s no official release date for Nokia Windows phones as yet, our anticipation is increasing by the day and we can’t wait to see the latest Nokia phones in action.
