We've just heard that the Nokia 700 will be arriving next month in the UK – and it'll be bringing the new Symbian Belle operating system with it, of course. Let's look at five good reasons why now's the time to upgrade.
The Nokia 700 on Vodafone, O2, Virgin and Everything Everywhere, coming in early October
It's Nokia's smallest ever smartphone
We're expecting big things from the Nokia 700 in many areas, but its overall size certainly isn't one of them. It comes in at a super-skinny 9.7mm thick – in fact, it's Nokia's smallest smartphone ever. There's still space inside for the likes of a 1GHz processor and a 5-megapixel camera with 720p video shooting abilities, though, so there's plenty of substance despite the lack of size.
You'll get Symbian Belle first
Symbian Belle is shaping up to be the most exciting step forward for Symbian in quite a while. And yes, while all the current Symbian Anna handsets will be updated to Symbian Belle in due course, the Nokia 700 will be arriving first, giving you the chance to soak up some jealous stares from your fellow Nokia users as you get to grips with your new baby.
It has a ClearBlack AMOLED touchscreen
The Nokia 700's display is – like everything else about it – on the compact size at 3.2-inches across, but it makes up for quality what it lacks in size. With the double benefit of an AMOLED panel and Nokia's ClearBlack Display technology, you can look forward to bright, punchy and highly details pictures on screen.
NFC is front and centre
We've already speculated that NFC is Symbian Belle's real hero feature, and with the Nokia 700 you'll get the full benefit, as it's been designed specifically with NFC in mind. That means being able to take advantage of Tap to Share and Tap to Pair, plus you'll have the perfect piece of mobile kit to tap into the rest of the ever-growing NFC-based infrastructure that's starting to emerge.
It's kind to the planet
Nokia is already known as the most planet-conscious mobile manufacturer around, so when it says the Nokia 700 is its most eco-friendly smartphone ever made, that's quite something! This compact Symbian Belle contender is made from high-quality sustainable materials, is highly energy-efficient and power-frugal, and even comes with Nokia's Fast Charger AC-15 to minimise your electricity footprint.
