With Nokia Windows Phone’s just around the corner, Nokia and Microsoft have teamed up to release a developer’s package to Symbian software developers. The three-step package has been designed to give Symbian developers a smoother transition to creating apps for Windows Phone and has whet our appetite even more for what may be coming from Nokia in the next few weeks.
Windows Phone 7.5 Mango update launches
Split into three sets of resources, the comprehensive package includes guidelines and tools to get Symbian software developers up and running to develop new apps for Windows Phone. It includes ‘The Windows Phone guide for Symbian Qt application developers’, ‘The addition of Symbian Qt to the Windows Phone API mapping tool’ and ‘The Nokia Windows Phone Training Roadshow’ and offers a vast range of resources to get developers started.
Topics in the package have clearly been designed to walk developers through every stage of the Windows Phone development process and include chapters titled ‘Introducing Windows Phone Platform’, ‘Windows Phone Application Design Guidelines’ and ‘Introducing Windows Phone Application Life Cycle’. There is even a chapter on porting applications from Symbian to Windows Phone, so we should hopefully see some of our favourite Nokia Symbian apps ported over to our Nokia Windows Phones quite quickly.
And as if the documentation wasn’t comprehensive enough, the Nokia Windows Phone Training Roadshow will be hitting cities across the world in the next three weeks. Starting in Paris and then moving to Milan, Madrid, Berlin and London, among others, the roadshow will comprise a series of one-day training events to help developers learn how to quickly get their ideas up and running on Windows Phones.
The ball is really rolling now and Nokia Windows Phones are clearly right around the corner.
