The Pocket Boom is a vibration speaker that we've hooked up to the 3.5mm audio jack of our Nokia N8 for use in this review. The speaker takes the music from your smartphone and when attached to any surface, window, door, table or empty box, for example, greats a vibration that amplifies the sound.

The Pocket Boom itself looks like a huge pill shape with a matt black soft rubber finish, At one end is a 3.4mm audio jack, in the middle is a Power switch, Power indicator and DC In socket, which can be used in conjunction with the USB cable supplied in the box.

At the business end of the Pocket Boom is a small speaker attached with a small wire that is  powered by two AAA batteries, which aren't supplied. The speaker has a small sticky tab in the middle so you can stick it to your table, door etc. (there are also two spares in the box).

We have to admit getting the best position is hampered by the short length of the cables, particularly  the one hooking up to our Nokia N8. The short cable doesn't impede sound quality, merely how well the how gadget rests against your chosen surface.

When it comes to getting a decent sound out of the Pocket Boom, you'll find that it's very much a case of trial and error, as some surface work better than others. In its favour, the Pocket Boom really works, adding a great deal of amplification to the sounds your Nokia N8 can generate.

Tapping up an empty box works well and we even found the body of our laptop gave a good sound. However, we have to admit that the kids in our house had more fun with it than anyone else, running around the house finding difference surfaces to try it out on.
