Our friends over at Nokia Conversations met up with the key figures behind Symbian Belle’s design process at Nokia’s London design studio to film a short video documentary discussing the thoughts behind Symbian Belle’s new look. This exclusive interview explains the visions and processes that go into creating a great user experience and has whet our appetite even more for the next generation of Nokia Symbian smartphones.

Nokia 700 hands-on review – 5 things we already love

Offering a fascinating insight into the design process of Symbian Belle, key figures such as Nikki Barton, Lead Designer on Symbian Belle, and Cristiano Oriole, Principle Designer Core UI, explain the thoughts behind the design of Symbian Belle’s new user interface. Once of the key factors they discuss is how they wanted to get Symbian Belle users looking up more and not having to focus so much on their smartphone’s screen, by making the interface more ‘glance-able’ through the use of Belle’s multiple home screens and widgets.

Aiming to make Symbian Belle simple, quick and instinctive to use, the new interface is built to ensure you can access the information you want faster than ever before. And while the concept of trying to make smartphone users look at their handsets less often may seem like an odd choice, the great experience we’ve had so far with using Symbian Belle on the Nokia 700 proves what an incredibly smart design move this has been.

Why not let us know your thoughts on Nokia’s new design and tell us which features of Symbian Belle you’re most looking forward to trying out for yourself in the Comments section below?

I have been using Belle for 3 or so weeks now and I really like it a lot. One thing that I love about Belle, my Exchange account works flawlessly! Finally. I always had problems with syncing using Symbian. This makes sticking with my N8 possible. Thank you.
