Nokia N8 vs. Apple iPhone 4S: Best monthly contract deals

Packing a stunning design, fantastic multimedia features and, of course, its market-leading 12-Megapixel camera, the Nokia N8 is still the pinnacle of modern smartphone engineering. And with the feature-packed N8 still winning widespread acclaim a year after its initial launch, a recent fall in prices has made this cutting-edge Symbian smartphone more affordable than ever.

Following the recent announcement of the Apple iPhone 4S, we thought it’d be a great idea to compare prices for the Nokia N8 and the iPhone 4S, to see just what you can expect to pay for these two handsets. With the Nokia N8 proving the bargain of the year in our monthly contract deal comparison, we were just as keen to see how the prices stack up when buying these phone SIM-free.

Our first port of call was the Apple Store to see just how much the iPhone 4S will cost when it’s released later this week. With prices starting at £499 for the 16GB model, you’ll need a healthy bank balance to bag yourself Apple’s latest handset. And with the 32GB and 64GB models costing £599 and £699, respectively, on the day of launch, the iPhone 4S is Apple’s most expensive smartphone yet.

With these prices noted down, our next step was to check out the UK’s leading online phone sellers, to see just how the Nokia N8 compares, when buying the handset SIM-free. Our first visit was to Carphone Warehouse where we found the Nokia N8 for £419.95 SIM-free, saving you at least £79 when compared to the Apple iPhone 4S.

Next we popped over to Expansys and found the Nokia N8 available for just £334.99 SIM-free. With free shipping available, buying the N8 at Expansys could save you as much as £364 compared to the iPhone 4S.

Our next stop was Play.com, where we were pleased to find the Nokia N8 available for a lower price still. Selling for just £308.95 SIM-free, buying the N8 from Play.com would save you at least £190 compared to the 16GB Apple iPhone 4S and as much as £390 against the 64GB model.

But by far the best deal we found for the Nokia N8 was at Amazon. Offering the N8 for a staggeringly affordable £289.99, it’s never been easier to bag yourself this market-leading Symbian smartphone. With a saving of as much as £409 when compared to the Apple iPhone 4S, there’s no question which smartphone we’ll be buying this Christmas.

I’ m due for an upgrade tomorrow – SA time & after considering my options, Nokia have a special running through Vodacom for R149 p/m . Looking @ GSM Arena, I was wondering whether the the N8′s CPU, RAM & ROM would let it down & affect its performance when compared to most other smart phones in its class – Most have specs of 1GHZ & higher 9HTC, SAMSUNG etc) Otherwise its a no brainer, looks like bargain of the year!

Once I bought my N8, I sold my digital camera because the N8 took much better pics. Please also note the free GPS that you can set to your own voice, the music player (with album art), the 100′s of free apps, the freedom to choose carriers, the list just goes on and on. I love my N8!
