Nokia N8 Symbian smartphone vs. Apple iPhone 4SWith only a couple of weeks to go until we get our hands on the new Nokia Windows Phones, the reigning champion of camera-phones still remains the stunning Nokia N8. With its feature-packed design, the N8 is the pinnacle of modern smartphone engineering, so we’ve looked at the ten things that still make it the best.

Nokia N8 vs. Apple iPhone 4S: Best monthly contract deals

Anodised metal design
With its gorgeous, yet hardwearing anodised aluminium chassis, the Nokia N8 is as tough as it is elegant. Beautiful to look at and comfortable to hold, the resilient metal means that, unlike the glass casing of the Apple iPhone 4S, the N8 is far less likely to shatter, should it accidentally fall from your hand.

12-Megapixel camera
Still effortlessly holding the title of ‘world’s best camera-phone’, the Nokia N8’s stunning 12-Megapixel camera simply cannot be beaten. With its Carl Zeiss lens and Xenon flash, it easily surpasses the 8-Megapixel offering of the Apple iPhone 4S and makes the Nokia N8 the true photographer’s choice.

Macro-mode
And it’s not just the sensor, lens and flash that make the Nokia N8’s camera unbeatable. With its macro-mode letting you get up close to capture insanely detailed images, the N8 is as good at shooting the smallest subjects as it is at capturing the widest landscapes, adding another unbeatable string to its bow.

Continuous auto-focus
With its fantastic auto-focus, the Nokia N8 is just as good at capturing video as it is for still photography. Nokia’s Active Hyper-Focal Distance technology ensures the largest depth of field and keeps objects in full focus, no matter how near or far the subject, keeping your videos pleasingly sharp at all times.

HD video recording
For when you want to capture the very best quality video, the Nokia N8’s stunning high-definition recording is ideal. Letting you enjoy stunning quality video, you can easily capture your favourite memories wherever you go. And when you get back home, you can just as easily enjoy them on the big screen.

HDMI port
This is because the Nokia N8 is one of the only smartphones to be come with a digital HDMI port and cable as standard, for connecting the N8 to an HDTV when you get back home. While the Apple iPhone 4S has no built-in HDMI port and requires you to buy a £35 adapter cable, the N8 has it all – for free!

USB On-The-Go
Not only that, but the Nokia N8 also makes it easy to connect external USB storage devices to share and back up your music, photos and videos. USB On-The-Go lets you plug devices straight into the phone via a handy adapter, rather than having to connect to your PC, as you do with the Apple iPhone 4S.

On-demand TV
And when you want to stay entertained on the move, the Nokia N8 even lets you watch on-demand TV whenever you went, thanks to full WebTV support. With access to the BBC and National Geographic, among many others, you won’t have to install any extra apps to enjoy the very best in mobile entertainment.

DivX videos
Plus, the Nokia N8’s full support for DivX-encoded videos means it’s never been easier to watch a wide range of the most popular video formats on your phone. And, unlike the Apple iPhone 4S, you won’t have to convert your videos to a compatible format, to enjoy them on your smartphone.

Free GPS navigation
And if all that weren’t enough, rather than charge you extra for full satellite navigation on your phone, the Nokia N8 gives it to you for free. With walk and drive navigation and turn-by-turn voice guidance, the N8 puts a full navigation device into the palm of your hand, adding to its unbeatable feature-set.

Nokia N8 vs. Apple iPhone 4S: Best SIM-free deals

And that’s just the beginning; with the new range of Nokia Windows Phones arriving imminently, we’ve only just started to see what Nokia has planned for the future. With the stunning Nokia N8 still proving such a knockout more than year after its initial release, we can’t wait to see that Nokia will bring us next.

Just sad that the OS is crap! looking forward to WP7!

  • Tom

Your “dreamy” N8 only supports 720p video unlike the 4s 1080p, so I guess your down to “9″ reasons…

  • Ale

It’s true, but due the high-quality of sensor and lens, there are not difference with 720 Hd of Nokia N8 and 1080 of Iphone 4GS…. like before 720p of N8 were better than 720p of Iphone 4.

    Bye

NOKIA N8 is still the best! 12 Mega-Pixel cam.with Carl Zeiss Optics!
Iphone4s doesn’t have and yet it’s expensive, too bad, apple fans pls. think twice before patronizing such product that is worthless of your money.

@Tom you don’t need necessarily that 1080p video recording of Iphone4s why?
because as I’ve said the camera of Iphone doesn’t support Carl Zeis Optics feature which improves the imaging of a camera.
So with that you’ll not gonna appreciate the so-called “1080P video recording”(??) of the Iphone4s. still “NOT IMPRESSIVE” for the users.

Go for the “WORTH IT” product as simple as “Getting more than what you paid for”
NOKIA N8 the best smartphone in the world :]

You joking me right? You think mobile only good in taking picture will be a winner? Come on, Nokia is dying because of so oldskul OS, almost all developer afraid to touch it. Compare with iOS, we got everykind of apps that we need, but Nokia only can produce games, give me a break. If we want good camera will just buy a real camera, e.g. Nikon Coolpix etc.
Nokia should fix it OS by joining Android, not another loser Windows Phone

I bought the n8 for its camera and navigation. The thought of having the 12MP camera and the free navigation was deffinately tempting, also the fancy trailers made with the N8 camera such as ‘the smallest animation” thing they did was very impressive..

However, i’ve had the phone for well over a year and what strikes you the most is that, the amount of time I use the phone for music/texting/browsing vs the time I take to take pictures or use the navigation is clear.

and frankly, on all other points the N8 fails.

Useless browser, useless UI that lags and freezes, music player that works great except the volume rocker stops working if you have just a few apps open and lock the phone, if you have more than 5 pages in a text you see a VERY obvious slow down, where you can actually type the words and sometimes wait a second or two before you see it.

    Get your priorities straight.

The nokia n95 was fantastic and really innovative, and nokia just haven’t moved on from a phone they created 4 years ago?

We don’t care about the OS we realy love…N8 for its camera…I don’t need to bring my compact camera since N8 is always with me…everywhere I go I can take photo and video…N8 can do calling and sending mesages email etc as well…I dont mind internet browsing because it is viewing also…if you just intend to surf and chat and browse all the way much better to use laptop or netbook rather which I am doing most of the time…
Iphone is just not wholesome smartphone…only for those who can afford…I am not saying I can’t afford..why I should go to a phone which is not widely used in the world…only by selected elite..and not really helpful for my everyday needs..just like camera and video, awesome…
