With Windows Phone 7.5 Mango already winning widespread acclaim for its great, integrated social networking features and the release of the world’s first Nokia Windows Phones just a few hours away, we’ve been taking a close look at the Windows Phone People Hub to see just what it will bring to social network fans.
Windows Phone 7.5 Social Networking: All you need to know
While most modern smartphone operating systems aim to make daily social networking an integral part of the user interface, Windows Phone 7.5 clearly sets the standard for everyone else to follow, offering easy one-touch access to your Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Windows Live accounts.
The Windows Phone People Hub is part of what makes Windows Phone 7.5 so great for social networking, as it brings all of your friends and family together on your Nokia Windows Phone and lets you contact them and keep up to date on all that they’ve been doing from a single, easy to use portal.
The People Hub is located, by default, at the top of the Windows Phone Start screen. Allowing easy access as soon as you switch your phone on for the first time, you can immediately start adding contacts and get your favourite social network accounts up and running in just a few quick clicks.
Tapping the People Hub tile on the Start screen takes you straight to your contacts list. You can either start adding new contacts from scratch, or you can import your existing contacts from your SIM card. From the People Hub you can also add all of your social network accounts quickly and easily.
Once your social network accounts have been set up, the contacts list will then automatically populate with all of your online contacts, so that you can have fast access to everyone you know. While this may seem overwhelming, you do have the option to trim the list down to only a select group of contacts.
From the contacts list, you can then swipe your finger to the right to see the What’s New page. Showing all updates and photos posted by your contacts, it provides an easy way to instantly get up to date on all that’s been going on and this feature alone is sure to be a big hit with social networking fans.
Again, if the thought of being bombarded with constant updates on your from all of your social networking contacts might seem a little excessive, you can fine-tune your update settings, so that your Nokia Windows Phone only receives updates from the contacts that you’re most interested in.
From the What’s New page, you can also tap on any of your contacts to view all updates and photos from that person alone. From there you can also tap a Comments button, to see other people’s comments on any of the posts that you see and you can even easily post a quick comment yourself.
And if you want even easier access to your contact's updates, you can even pin any contact you want directly to the Start screen of your Nokia Windows Phone. Creating a live tile that updates itself automatically, you can instantly see the latest goings-on for that person whenever you use your phone.
Integrating social networking features directly into the operating system better than any smartphone OS we’ve seen before, Windows Phone 7.5 Mango is the perfect choice for easily managing all your social networks wherever you go.
Within a few short hours we’ll be getting to see just how well it all works on the latest high-quality Nokia hardware and we’ll be reporting straight from the exhibition floor at Nokia World 2011 in London tomorrow with all the essential Nokia Windows Phone news and reviews as the products arrive.
