Nokia Free London Wi-FiNokia has announced that it is offering free Wi-Fi in London across 26  Wi-Fi hotspotsas part of its 'Amazing everyday' campaign around the launch of the Nokia Lumia 800. Even if you're not a Nokia user you can take advantage. Read on to find out more about Nokia and its free Wi-Fi trial.

Accessing public Wi-Fi can involve more trial and error than we’d like. And sometimes it doesn’t even work. Frustrating? You bet. Nokia and Spectrum Interactive are hoping to come to the rescue with ambitious plans to coat London with a blanket of free Wi-Fi. That’s right, free!

Starting on November 1st and running until the end of the year, the trial is offering Londoners the chance to have an amazing day, everyday, which as we know is the tag line for the new Nokia Lumia 800 promotion.

And it all starts with26 Wi-Fi hotspots dotted around London - each housed in phone kiosks. Speeds will be capable too, capped at 1Mbps for downloads.

The plan is to trial how many people use the service, where they use it most, and how long they use it for. If all goes well, we could see free Wi-Fi roll out further across city, and nationwide. Spectrum Interactive currently runs 1,800 of the Wi-Fi equipped kiosks around the country, with 1,000 of those already in London, so signs of a bigger rollout are promising indeed.

Earlier, we grabbed the chance to trial the free Wi-Fi on London’s Oxford Street and we are pleased to report that it works! Nokia and Spectrum Interactive have made it as easy as possible to log in by simply connecting to “Free Nokia Wi-Fi” and ticking a box to accept the terms and conditions.

We’re promised that, once you’ve logged into a spot, that spot will always remember you - so no more fumbling around searching for public Wi-Fi hotspots. Once you’re in one, it should just work.

Free Nokia Wi-Fi will work across every Nokia handset that can connect to Wi-Fi, and use Nokia Maps to display the areas where each hotspot is located. Non-Nokia users aren’t left out either, as the service will also work on any Wi-Fi enabled handset.
