With the recently announced Nokia Asha 201 phone set for release after Christmas, we’ve been taking a look at this eye-catching Series 40 handset to bring you all the official Nokia specifications and photos.
The Nokia Asha 201 is basically a single-SIM version of the dual-SIM Nokia Asha 200, also announced at Nokia World 2011 in London. As with the Asha 200, the Nokia Asha 201 is a Series 40-powered phone built around a 2.4-inch TFT screen, featuring a full QWERTY keyboard and available in a choice of eye-catching colours, including green, pink, white and black.
Using the same chassis as the Asha 200, the Nokia Asha 201 is a sleek and lightweight handset, measuring 115.4 x 61.1 x 14mm and weighing a mere 105g. The 2.4-inch TFT display features a QVGA 320 x 240 pixel resolution and a 16-bit colour depth, helping websites, photos and videos be shown to best effect on the compact screen.
A 2-Megapixel, rear-facing camera sits on the back of the Nokia Asha 201 and lets you capture photos up to a resolution of 1600 x 1200 pixels. A 4 x digital zoom lets you get up close with your subjects and you can also record video at a resolution of 176 x 144 pixels in MPEG-4 and H.263 formats.
When playing back videos, you have a wider choice of formats, with the Asha 201 supporting H.264/AVC, 3GPP (H.263), WMV and MPEG-4 files and playing them back at 15 frames per second.
The Nokia Asha 201 is designed to let you enjoy your music on the move and you can play back music files in MP3, MP4, WAV, WMA, AAC, AAC+, AMR-WB, HE-AAC v2, AMR-NB, MIDI Tones (poly 64), Mobile XMF, NRT and True tones formats.
The Asha 201 also features a built-in stereo FM RDS Radio, which includes an FM radio-recording feature, letting you record your favourite radio shows and enjoy them later, ether via the built-in loudspeaker or the included Nokia WH-102 Stereo Headset.
While the Nokia Asha 201 only provides 10MB of storage as standard, it also supports Micro SD cards, so you can easily upgrade to as much as 32GB of flash storage if you have a lot of music, photos and videos to store.
The Nokia Asha 201 also features built-in Bluetooth 2.1, for wirelessly sharing files with compatible devices and there is a Micro USB port and USB 2.0 cable included, to let you connect the Asha 201 to your PC, laptop or netbook.
As with the Nokia Asha 200, the Asha 201 offers a claimed battery life of up to 52-hours when listening to music and 7 hours of talk time. Standby time is equally impressive, offering up to 37 days of battery life from a single charge.
The Nokia Asha 201 is set for release between January and March 2012, with an estimated retail price of around 60 Euros, before taxes.
