Billed as the world’s smallest touchscreen smartphone, the Nokia 700 packs stunning looks, a great screen and unbeatable Symbian Belle usability into its slim and light chassis. It has had no trouble capturing the imagination of the British technology press since it was launched last month, so we’ve been taking a look at what reviewer’s have been saying about the stylish Nokia 700.
CNET UK’s Andrew Hoyle was among the first to review the Nokia 700 and was quick to note the gorgeously slim design, saying, “The 700 aims to take us back to the days when the coolest kid in school was the one with the smallest phone.”
In particular, Hoyle liked the Nokia 700’s bright 3.2-inch ClearBlack screen and how capably it puts its rivals in the shade, noting, “The screen is arguably the main selling point of the Nokia 700 - it's much better than many screens on phones of this price.”
It’s not just the 700’s design that impressed Hoyle, though, as performance also stood out. “The 700 runs on a 1GHz processor…we found swiping between home screens and loading various apps to be quick and responsive [and we] noticed very little lag as we dived into the deepest recesses of Belle”, he said.
The phone experts over at TechRadar also liked the Nokia 700’s gorgeous design and subtle styling, saying, “[The Nokia 700 is] sturdy, and the sleek design will appeal to all who want smartphone capabilities without being ostentatious.”
As with CNET UK, TechRadar also loved the Nokia 700’s stunning, bright screen, noting, “On this gorgeous ClearBlack screen, the colours pop beautifully. The contrast is sharp and, as you might expect, blacks are deep. It's truly a delicious screen, despite the small size.”
The 700’s great Symbian Belle OS and sharp 5-Megapixel camera also impressed the TechRadar team, with them saying, “Belle is definitely the best Symbian version by far” and “It's a good camera for uploading to Facebook and Twitter - which you can do easily from the gallery”.
In summing up their review, TechRadar said, “[The Nokia 700 is] a lovely phone for someone who wants to dip in and out of smart phone capabilities without losing either the phone element or most of their pocket space” making it clear what a hit this great slim-line smartphone was for them.
Recombu editor Hannah Bouckley also liked what the Nokia 700 had to offer, in terms of style and mobility, kicking her review off with, “From the moment you pick up the Nokia 700 you’re impressed. As well as looking stunning…it's tiny.”
Again the 700’s gorgeous 3.2-inch screen impressed, with Bouckley noting, “the screen incorporates AMOLED technology, which is fantastic for movies. Blacks look really inky and deep and in our test clips it displays highlight and shadow detail very well.”
And rounding up her review with “The Nokia 700 is a solid addition to Nokia's line-up, it's small, stylish and speedy, with a great screen [and proves to be] a solid mid/high-end smartphone”, it was obvious what an excellent handset the Recombu editor found the Nokia 700 to be.
By packing a stunning screen and fantastic Symbian Belle usability into such a sleek and stylish chassis, the Nokia 700 is a great alternative to the glut of monstrous touchscreen smartphones weighing down bags and pockets around the world. If you want a slim and light smartphone that looks amazing and packs all you need, without sacrificing any of the essential smartphone features you’ve come to expect, then be sure to try out the Nokia 700 as soon as you can.
