With so many Windows Phones lacking flair, the Nokia Lumia 800 is a breath of fresh air. With its bright and bold design, stunning screen and fantastic Nokia-only apps, many (including us) are calling it the world’s best Windows Phone, so we’ve put it head-to-head against one of its main rivals, the huge 4.7-inch HTC Titan.
The first thing you notice about the Nokia Lumia 800 when viewed next to the HTC Titan is just how much better looking it is. While the Titan has the same clunky, plain black chassis seen on most rival Windows Phones, the Lumia 800’s gorgeous, curved chassis blows it out of the water. And with its great choice of cyan, magenta and black, it offers far greater style than the HTC.
While the HTC Titan is fitted with a large 4.7-inch screen, it features the same 800 x 480 pixel resolution as the Lumia 800’s stunning 3.7-inch display. As a result, the Lumia packs the same amount of pixels into a slightly smaller space, helping it to show images with far more clarity than the HTC and letting you enjoy a much better picture when viewing photos, videos and web pages.
Due to its larger screen, the HTC Titan also lives up to its name with a design that feels monstrous next to the sleek and light Lumia 800. At 15mm longer and 9.5mm wider than the Lumia, the Titan is also a heavier handset and not nearly as comfortable to carry. While its size is baked right into the Titan’s name, we’d prefer to pack the smaller and lighter Lumia 800 in our pocket.
The Lumia also far exceeds the HTC Titan when it comes to battery life, with the Nokia helping you to stay connected for longer. While the HTC Titan provides an WCDMA talk time of up to 410-minutes and a GSM talk time of up to 710-minutes, the Lumia goes much further, offering as much as 570 and 780-minutes of talk time, for WCDMA and GSM, respectively.
And even with hardware aside, the Nokia Lumia 800 continues to prove itself as the world’s best Windows Phone thanks to its great apps. While the HTC Titan packs the same fantastic Windows Phone 7.5 OS as the Lumia, it is only Nokia Windows Phones that come with the fantastic Nokia Mix Radio and Nokia Drive apps, giving you great music playback features and full turn-by-turn satellite-navigation for free.
Packing a feature-packed specification, bags more style and a range of stunning Nokia-only apps, the Nokia Lumia 800 is clearly the best Windows Phone you can buy. And even when placed next to a well-made and popular smartphone like the HTC Titan, the Lumia’s superiority is all too clear, blowing its rival out of the water at every turn.
