Nokia Lumia 800 vs. Apple iPhone 4 best SIM-free dealsFollowing our recent look into how the gorgeous Nokia Lumia 800 compares to the Apple iPhone 4 when signing up to a monthly contract, we thought we’d also check out the costs of buying a new SIM-free handset. With hundreds of pounds of difference between the brand new Lumia 800 and the year and a half old iPhone, the results may surprise you.

Nokia Lumia 800 vs. Apple iPhone 4: Best monthly contract deals

Our first stop was to check out how much you can buy the Nokia Lumia 800 SIM-free directly from Nokia’s website. At present the only option we found for buying the Lumia 800 without a contract, is to pick it up on Pay As You Go (PAYG) from Three, which will cost you just £399.99 for the new handset.

Next we popped over to Expansys where we found the Lumia 800 available for pre-order for £439.99. With all three colours – cyan, magenta and black – already on offer when pre-ordering, you can easily choose your favourite style and place your order for your new Lumia 800 right away.

In comparison, the near 18-month old iPhone 4 costs a whopping £549.99 on Expansys for the 16GB black model, while the white model costs more still, at £569.99. Considering the iPhone 4 is almost a year and a half old, it’s amazing that it still costs so much more than its rivals, including the brand new Lumia 800.

Next we checked out Amazon UK where it’s not uncommon to find some truly stunning bargains on older smartphones. However, there we found the Apple iPhone 4 for still far more than the Lumia 800. At £524.95 SIM-free, it costs at least £85 more than the Nokia Windows Phone.

And finally we stopped by Play, where we found the Apple iPhone 4 costs more still when bought SIM-free. At £575.95 new, it costs between £135.96 and £175.96 more than the Lumia 800, making it incredibly expensive to pick up this 2010 smartphone; particularly since it has already been superseded by a newer model.

No matter where you choose to buy and whether you opt for a SIM-free handset or a monthly contract, the old iPhone 4 will cost you hundreds of pounds more than it takes to pick up the brand new Nokia Lumia 800. With some truly great deals on offer and the Lumia 800’s stunning style, features and usability, we know which smartphone we’d prefer.

But what do you think of the new Nokia Lumia 800? Are you the proud owner of a new handset, or are in market for a new smartphone and considering picking up this new Nokia Windows Phone? Why not let is know in the Comments below.

I just popped over to Expansys and the price for the Lumia 800s are £489.99, which is £50 more than what you stated, unless they’ve increased the price within the last 12 hours.
