By far the world’s most popular smartphone game, you can now play the fantastic Angry Birds on your Nokia Lumia 800 Windows Phone. With the Lumia’s stunning 3.7-inch display and great touchscreen usability, the addictive bird vs. pig action is better than ever, so we’ve grabbed our catapults to see just how good Angry Birds is on the Nokia Windows Phone.
If you’ve never played Angry Birds before, we hope you’ve got a good excuse, as this fantastic game packs everything that makes smartphone gaming so much fun. With its colourful graphics, great sound and totally addictive gameplay, this is the one app that everyone should have on their handset.
The aim of the game is simple; a drove of evil green pigs has run off with your eggs and it’s up to you, the angry birds, to get them back and defeat the swine by destroying their defences and getting rid of the porkers in each level.
To do this, all you have to do is fling your angry birds from a catapult on the left of the screen and strategically attack the pigs and their fortresses on the right. Using the Nokia Lumia 800’s great touchscreen to pull and aim your catapult, you can direct your birds with perfect precision, for the most accurate shots.
With a range of birds at your disposal, each with its own unique abilities, you must think tactically if you’re to smash the pigs as quickly as possible and win the maximum available points. It’s this level of strategy, combined with the easy to pick-up gameplay, that makes Angry Birds so fun and compelling.
You start the game with the most basic fowl; a red bird that can be flung like a rock, to break down walls and kill the pigs. As you progress through the levels, though, you can access birds that explode, dive-bomb, carpet-bomb and boomerang around the screen, among others, giving you a formidable arsenal to use.
In each level you win points and earn stars for how many pigs you kill, how much scenery you destroy and how few birds you have used. Killing all the pigs on a level will snag you one star – all you need to progress to the next level – but the real challenge lies in getting three stars on every level.
In some cases this can be incredibly difficult, as it requires some truly tactical thinking, which is why it’s not necessary to progress through the game. But the extra playtime it adds to the package makes Angry Birds even more compelling, as you battle through past levels to win the most stars you can.
With its great cartoony graphics, Angry Birds is really brought to life on your Nokia Lumia 800’s gorgeous 3.7-inch AMOLED screen. And the hilarious soundtrack is just as much fun, with plenty of squawks and grunts from the birds and pigs to keep you laughing all the way, during the battle.
If you haven’t played Angry Birds before, it can be hard to know what all the fuss is about, but once you try it you’ll be hooked. Now that it’s available on the stunning Nokia Lumia 800, there’s no excuse not to give it a try on your Windows Phone and this is still by far the king of top-quality smartphone gaming.
