Olive feature film shot on Nokia N8 smartphoneThe Nokia N8 has long been the photographer’s choice, but now the world’s best camera-phone is proving just as popular for moviemakers. It has been used to create a full-length independent feature film, starring Gena Rowlands and with sound design created by George Lucas’ Skywalker Sound.

Nokia N8 one year on: 10 features that still define this flagship smartphone

'Olive' tells the story of a young girl that enters into the lives of three people and manages to change their lives without saying a single word. And to bring their beautiful story to the big screen, directors Hooman Khalili and Patrick Gilles chose to use the fantastic Nokia N8 to record their feature-length film.

With its market-leading 12-Megapixel camera and Carl Zeiss optics, the Nokia N8 has been the world’s best camera-phone since it was first released in late 2010, so all it took for Khalili and Gilles to now make it the world’s best movie-camera phone was a 35mm lens adapter to give them the right depth of field.

Financed completely independently, the creators of 'Olive' are now trying to bring their movie to more than 2,000 cinemas across the Unites States, making it not only the world’s first movie to be shot on a smartphone, but also possibly the first to be shown in so many cinemas without the backing of a major film studio.

With famed movie star and Academy Award nominee Gena Rowlands starring, and with sound design from George Lucas’ world-leading Skywalker Sound, Olive is a stunning achievement made all the more amazing by being shot on the fantastic Nokia N8 Symbian smartphone.
