Compared to every other Windows Phone we’ve used, the Nokia Lumia 800 is the only one that gets everything just right. We’ve been using our handsets for over a month now and already there’s no separating us from them, so here are all the reasons the Nokia Lumia 800 truly is the first ‘real’ Windows Phone.
Nokia Lumia 800: What the experts think
Nokia Mix Radio
If there’s one killer feature on the Nokia Lumia 800 that has us regularly laughing at our non-Nokia Windows Phones-owning mates, it’s Nokia Mix Radio. While our friends pay through the nose for third-party music-streaming apps like Spotify, we’ve been enjoying a far better service for free from Nokia.
Nokia Mix Radio puts more the 15 million songs in the palm of your hand without costing you a penny and you can enjoy it straight out of the box. It even keeps tabs on what you listen to and suggests songs you may like, making it an essential app that we’ve been glued to since we first used it.
Nokia Drive
And with our total inability to read a map or ask for directions, Nokia Drive has been a lifesaver on our Nokia Lumia 800’s. If you want to enjoy full satellite navigation for free for the rest of your life, then leave all other Windows Phones on the shelf where they belong and grab yourself a Nokia Lumia.
Nokia Drive looks great on the Lumia 800’s gorgeous screen and it’s never once steered us wrong, getting us to every meeting and party in perfect time. Adding yet another reason the Nokia Lumia 800 makes our mate’s phones look a bit rubbish, there’s no doubt which is the world’s best Windows Phone.
Stunning style
Since every other Windows Phone in the world seems to roll off a conveyor belt labelled ‘boring and anonymous’, the Nokia Lumia 800’s bright colours, elegant chassis and gorgeous curved screen makes it a real breath of fresh air. Next to any of its rivals, the Lumia makes them all look dumpy and ugly.
And that’s without mentioning the fact that the three great colours you can buy it in – black, cyan and magenta – perfectly match the Windows Phone 7.5 OS. The beautiful design has Nokia written all over it and we’ve lost count of the jealous looks our phone has got when we’ve been using it out and about.
Gorgeous screen
The same flair can be seen on the stunning 3.7-inch screen. While most other Windows Phones feature flat, lifeless displays, the Nokia Lumia 800’s curved AMOLED ClearBlack screen has an elegance all of its own, that makes even the most popular fruit-themed smartphones look badly dated in comparison.
The seamless ‘floating’ display design also has the amazing effect of seeming to lift images off the screen and bring them closer to us as we use our phone. Bringing our photos and videos to more vivid life than any other Windows Phone you can find we wouldn’t give up our Nokia Lumia 800’s if you paid us.
Perfect for photos
Anyone that’s ever heard of the market-leading Nokia N8 knows that Nokia takes no prisoners when it comes to its cameras. And while the Nokia Lumia 800 can’t quite measure up to the big daddy of camera-phones, it still produces some of the best photos and videos we’ve seen on a smartphone.
Packing an ultra-sharp 8-Megapixel camera and high-quality Carl Zeiss lens, we haven’t stopped snapping away since we got our hands on our handsets. And with the great Windows Phone 7.5 Pictures Hub, you can view your pics with perfect clarity thanks to the unbeatably slick and smooth touch interface.
10 more reasons to love the Nokia Lumia 800
With the Lumia 800, Nokia has not only raised the bar on its rivals, it has set it so high that we doubt any non-Nokia Windows Phone will be able to come close to matching it anytime soon.
If you’re in the market for a new smartphone and want one that’s not only gorgeous, feature-packed and easy-to-use, but is also sure to get you noticed, then make sure to try out the Nokia Lumia 800 as soon as you can.
