Nokia Lumia 800: How to get started (video guide)
If you’ve ever been unlucky enough to lose your phone, you know what a pain it can be. All your contacts, texts, photos, videos and game saves are gone and you’re left feeling like a right idiot because you know that if you’d just backed up your phone every now and then, you’d have been able to restore it all in seconds.
Backing up the contents of your Nokia Lumia 800 is something we try to do at least once a fortnight and we strongly recommend you do the same. Not only does it save you loads of potential grief in the future, while you’re there you can also install any great new Windows Phone updates that may be available.
To back up and update your Nokia Windows Phone you just need to install Microsoft’s Zune software on your home laptop or desktop PC. You can grab Zune for free from www.zune.net and once installed on your computer, you just need to connect your Nokia Lumia 800 using its included USB cable.
Once your phone’s connected, Zune will launch and you can use it to check for software updates for your Nokia Windows Phone. And if any updates are available, Zune will download and install them for you and then automatically back up the full contents of your phone while it installs the new firmware.
Then, if anything happens and you end up losing your phone, you’ve got a full backup of all your content just ready and waiting to be restored back to a new handset anytime you like. And since the whole backup process only takes a few minutes and won’t cost you a penny, you’d be mad not to do it.
