Nokia N8 2011 year in reviewSince its release late last year, the Nokia N8 Symbian smartphone has had an amazing twelve months, racking up great critical acclaim and holding its title as the world’s best camera-phone since the day it was released. We’ve taken a look back at just what made the Nokia N8 such a huge hit in 2011.

Nokia N8 one year on: 10 features that still define this flagship smartphone

When it was released in late 2010, the Nokia N8 quickly established itself as one of the best Nokia smartphones to date. With its staggeringly sharp 12-Megapixel camera and unmatched optics, it also proved itself to be the best camera-phone in the world – a title it still holds to this day.

When we first got our hands on the Nokia N8 we were blown away by its stunning style and features. And eight months later we hadn’t changed our mind one bit, as this amazing Symbian smartphone was still our choice of everyday handset, letting us do everything we need with speed and ease.

In large part this was down to the great Symbian Anna operating system that runs the Nokia N8 and makes it a joy to use for any task. And with an update to the newer and arguably better Symbian Belle OS on the way in the New Year, the world’s best camera-phone is about to get even better.

But it wasn’t just the fantastic software that made the Nokia N8 such a great smartphone, though; it was also the design. As well as featuring a choice of great looking colours and a sleek yet resilient anodised aluminium chassis, the N8 packed so many innovations that it was impossible to ignore.

But the feature of the Nokia N8 that makes it truly unbeatable is of course its amazing 12-Megapixel camera. Packing the sharpest sensor of any camera-phone, alongside high-quality Carl Zeiss optics and powerful software features, you can be sure of the best images every time with the N8.

Whether you’re a professional or amateur photographer, the results from the Nokia N8 are truly amazing. Not only is it great for capturing black and white images, its powerful macro mode lets you get up close with the smallest subjects. And it’s even great for quick weird and wacky snaps.

And if, for whatever reason, the amazing out of the box camera functionality of the Nokia N8 isn’t quite enough for your photography needs, then it’s easy to enhance its features yet further with the many great photography apps that you can download from the Nokia Store. And many of them are even free!

Of course it’s not just photography apps that can be added to the Nokia N8, as the Symbian OS can also be packed with top-quality entertainment apps, apps for sports fans and a wide range of free utilities that can help to make using your Nokia smartphone more enjoyable than ever.

But maybe the biggest news for the Nokia N8 this year was the announcement that its camera is so good that it has been used to record a full-length professional feature-film, with big name stars involved in the movie and full sound design provided by George Lucas’ world-leading Skywalker Sound.

And with so many great monthly contract and PAYG deals available right now for the Nokia N8, you can bag yourself this stunning Symbian smartphone for a better price than ever and enjoy all that the world’s best camera-phone has to offer this Christmas and long into the New Year.

Had my N8 for about a year now – probably the best phone I’ve ever had! Great graphics, fast speed, versatile, easy to use and reliable. Camera is brilliant and Nokia panorama its a great tool that’s simple to use. My only groped about the N8 its that you can’t save emailed appointments directly to the calendar. Sat nav beats iphone and tom tom ever time! Overall the N8 is a FIVE STAR device the I would be happy to recommended to anyone!
